Staten Island, N.Y. — New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) buildings in five boroughs will receive 30,000 new heat pump units, driven by an initial investment of $70 million.
Mayor Eric Adams and Governor Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday that the city and state are moving forward with a plan to provide cold-climate encapsulated window heat pump units for NYCHA residences.
This project is part of the Clean Heating for All Challenge – an initiative led by NYCHA, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) Board of Directors to develop a new electrification product that Heating and cooling needs of existing multifamily homes can be better met and the transition to fossil-free heat sources accelerated.
