commercial heat pump sales to achieve double-digit growth in 2021

New market research by BSRIA concludes that concerns about energy costs drove increased demand for low-carbon, high-capacity heating systems in several European markets last year
Market research has found double-digit growth in sales of high-capacity heat pump systems in the UK and Italy in 2021.
The BSRIA analysis concluded that sales of commercial heat pumps in several key European markets increased by an average of 27% over the previous year.
Sales growth in both the Italian and UK markets was above this average, thanks to so-called “generous financial incentives” for low-carbon HVAC installations.
In total, the study examines the commercial heat pump market in six countries from December 2021 to March 2022, including the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
Recent increases in energy prices around the world are seen as driving interest in low-carbon heating systems in 2021.
“Energy saving has been a hotter topic in some markets, as some bills have risen fivefold in 12 months in some markets,” the BSRIA said.
The group’s research shows that sales of air source heat pumps have grown the most. This is a similar capacity heat output although water systems are generally less costly. The study found that air-to-water heat pumps will account for 84% of the high-capacity systems market by 2021.
Of the markets studied in the study, Italy, France and the Netherlands will see the largest sales of commercial heat pumps in 2021, with 713, 300 and 290 air-to-water and ground/water-to-water systems sold, respectively.
In the study, initiatives by local authorities to support the decarbonisation of buildings were identified as the main driver of sales in these markets.BSRIA also cited the European Commission’s Near-Zero Emission Building (NZEB) standard as another factor driving growth in sales of low-carbon heating systems.
