The company further saves energy by following the new lighting regulations of the US Department of Energy.
SAN DIEGO – March 1, 2023 – The swimming pool industry is about to undergo another transformation with new Department of Energy (DOE) lighting regulations aimed at reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by banning the sale of certain incandescent light bulbs. In response to these changes, Fluidra, the world’s leading provider of pool equipment and connectivity solutions to the pool and wellness sector, has announced its commitment to not only meeting but exceeding these regulations.
The new rules apply to a variety of pool lights with luminous flux between 310 and 3300 lumens (approximately 25 to 300 watts for incandescent lamps) and are based on the current Energy Independence and Safety Act of 2007, which provides support for many of the common energy efficiency standards set by for home lighting products. Under the new rules, manufacturers must produce more energy-efficient lighting products, which will save consumers a lot of money. According to an independent environmental study commissioned by the US Department of Energy, the new rules will bring about $3 billion in net benefits to consumers over 30 years.
• Manufacturers can no longer sell non-compliant filament lamps manufactured or imported on or after January 1, 2023.
• As of March 1, 2023, distributors and retailers will no longer be able to resell non-compliant incandescent bulbs, or they will be fined with reduced penalties until July 31, 2023.
In the current version, these rules apply to Fluidra 100 W and 300 W incandescent lamps. However, the company, which is focused on reducing its carbon footprint through its business practices and the products it makes, is taking a firmer stand and will phase out incandescent light bulbs altogether. Going forward, the company will produce only LED fixtures, which have been proven to provide homeowners with up to 87% energy savings*.
“Pool owners are now looking for more than just a beautiful pool to enjoy; they want the pool to include solutions that reduce their environmental impact and save them money,” said Lenny Rhodes, president of Fluidra. “We’re always looking for ways to make pools more energy efficient, whether that’s using variable speed technology or adding a pool cover to conserve water, heat, and chemicals. In terms of lighting, we’re seeing a natural shift in the industry to shift to LED-based technology, which is why these new DOE regulations present an ideal opportunity for us to accelerate the transition to this more efficient technology and we believe our customers will benefit from the efficiency gains and cost savings that these changes will bring.”
*Calculations based on a comparison of a 500W white incandescent lamp and a 65W white LED lamp with comparable lumen output.
Replacing the previous generation of incandescent bulbs, Fluidra will continue to build on its trusted LED lighting selection, including the upcoming launch of its latest LED product, Infinite WaterColors LED lights, which the company believes will address pool owners’ sustainability concerns. Delivering an exceptional experience and maximum value for pool owners.
