heat pump cooling

Belgium: According to the latest data from the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), heat pump sales in Europe grew by almost 38% last year to about 3 million units.
Based on preliminary data from 16 markets, EHPA has estimated that the total number of connected heat pumps for heating (air-to-air and water) and heat pumps for hot water in Europe is currently around 20 million units. This shows that heat pumps heat approximately 16% of residential and commercial buildings in Europe.
The estimated number of heat pumps sold in 2022 will displace about 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas, avoiding about 8 metric tons of CO2 emissions. The entire fleet of heat pumps in Europe avoids 54 metric tons of CO2, which is roughly the equivalent of Greece’s annual emissions.
In terms of growth in sales of heat pumps for heating compared to 2021, Poland is well ahead with just over +100% sales in 2021, followed by the Czech Republic (99%), the Netherlands (+80%), Belgium (+66% ), Sweden (+60%), Austria (+59%), Germany (+53%) and Finland (+52%). The second group of countries showed strong growth from 20% to 40%: the UK (40%, but based on estimates, not official data), Italy (+37%), Norway (+25%), Spain (+21%). ), Switzerland (+22%), Denmark and France (both +20%).
Describing 2022 as a “wonderful year,” EHPA Secretary General Thomas Nowak said: “The phenomenal growth of heat pumps is a testament to an innovative and resilient industry that is doing everything it can to increase capacity, thereby creating jobs, helping fight climate change and stabilizing bills. for electricity. But there are still many people in Europe who do not yet have heat pumps due to the industry being at full capacity, upfront costs and lack of clear information. We work closely with a coalition of organizations and the European Development Commission. EU plan for heat pumps to address these critical issues”.
