PORTLAND, Oregon. (KPTV) — With a new wave of heat looming, some people are still struggling to find equipment to cool their homes. The good news, though, is that it can be easier to save on your cooling bills.
The Oregon Energy Trust works with more companies across the state to install heat pumps that can heat or cool your home. They add incentives that can save you thousands of dollars. The problem is, due to problems with the heat supply, your home may be warmer than you would like this summer.
If you call today to install a heat pump, it will take a month. Rose City Heating and Cooling said they would not be able to make appointments until mid-September due to supply chain issues caused by the pandemic.
First there was the motor and now the wiring harness, so it’s hard to get an appointment. In some cases, this can delay installation by up to six months, depending on the vendor.

The Oregon Energy Trust partners with companies listed on their website to help Oregonians save money. Sterling said that about 10 percent of his callers are interested in encouraging energy confidence because it saves you money and helps the environment in the process. Brookfield says you can replace an inefficient gas stove with an efficient air handling system that heats and cools your home without releasing carbon monoxide into the atmosphere.
In addition to federal tax credits, homeowners can receive rebates of up to $5,000 for solar energy systems and up to $2,500 for energy storage systems. You’ll also save on upfront costs, as well as save about $1,200 on utility bills.
“Incentives for heat pumps have ranged from $600 to $1,650 directly from incremental installation costs,” Brookfield said. “Like with your high-efficiency converter heat pump system, you are looking at 10 percent of the cost to heat and cool your home without using fossil fuels.”
Brookfield told FOX 12 that he believes his company hasn’t caught up and has been out of stock for about a year now. It is also possible to increase the waiting time.
