HVAC program offers scholarships, future employment opportunities

Students in the Princeton Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning program have many opportunities to learn practical skills and the potential for college scholarships.
HVAC is one of the two-year programs offered by Princeton ISD Career and Technical Education (CATE).Students participating in the program begin in their junior year and complete the program in their senior year.
CATE Director Brett Hackman said the district’s HVAC program has been very successful in finding programs for students that fit their needs, a result of the program’s strong relationships with local companies.
“It’s hard for students to see the enormous potential that the program offers,” Hackman said.”We have a lot of companies that we have relationships with, but they each offer different options.”
One limitation for students who may want to work is a legal requirement that HVAC companies provide employees with insurance policies. In this case, this means that some students may not be able to work at the school until the age of 18.
However, some companies will allow students to work while on campus during the summer.Other companies that partner with the program offer scholarships to students who “sign up” with them to complete their HVAC studies.
