CORK, Ireland, April 6, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Johnson Controls (NYSE: JCI), a global leader in smart, healthy and green buildings, announced that the YORK® AMICHI™ YMPA reversible heat pump with air-cooled DC scroll inverter and low global warming potential (GWP) R454B refrigerant received the Heat Pump Award of the Year in the ACR Press Awards 2021. Johnson Controls also won the 2021 CRH Innovation Award at the China Refrigeration Expo for its high quality residential YORK YVAG heat recovery pump.
YORK AMICHI Heat Pumps is one of 11 winners in an annual competition that recognizes the best products, businesses and people in the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. YORK YVAG was one of 112 products submitted by 52 residential and commercial heating companies. The superior energy efficient heat recovery system provides an excellent solution for year-round residential heating.
“These awards further demonstrate our commitment to innovation and sustainability as they recognize products that significantly improve offline performance. When integrated with our OpenBlue platform, they provide significant improvements in sustainability and energy efficiency,” said George Oliver, Chairman and CEO of Johnson Controls. “Our European and Chinese teams have put in countless hours, conducted many field tests, and listened to customer feedback to create these truly revolutionary products.”
The awards also confirm Johnson Controls’ commitment to achieving zero carbon emissions by 2040 and empowering customers to reduce carbon emissions. Johnson Controls recently announced plans to reduce operating emissions by 55% and customer emissions by 16% by 2030. The OpenBlue platform for optimizing building sustainability will play a key role in achieving these goals and ultimately creating an environment for healthy people, healthy places and a healthy planet.
Oliver said these awards reinforce Johnson Controls’ commitment to OpenBlue and its full suite of connected technologies, products and services for customers and partners. Launched in 2020, OpenBlue includes specialized AI-based service solutions such as remote diagnostics, preventive maintenance, compliance monitoring, and advanced risk assessment.
Globally, Europe is leading the way in achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. It has pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (compared to 1990 levels) by at least 40% by 2030 and proposes to increase this figure to 55% under the European Green Deal (EGD). More recently, Europe has placed climate change and the energy transition at the heart of its economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, creating economic incentives to adopt low-carbon technologies and improve energy efficiency. Heat pumps are an important part of this equation.
Jeff Williams, president of global products for Johnson Controls, noted that YORK AMICHI and YVAG heat pumps are just two of Johnson Controls’ industry-leading heat pumps. Over the past 40 years, Johnson Controls has developed a wide range of heat pumps for residential, commercial and industrial applications. These heat pumps act as carbon neutral heat sources, relying on low GWP refrigerants such as ammonia. From size to efficiency to temperature range, Johnson Controls’ product portfolio meets global standards and continues to help customers reduce their carbon footprint. Since 2002, Johnson Controls has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions intensity by more than 70 percent.
“Heat pumps have always been in the DNA of industrial refrigeration, and have been used in the food, dairy and other industries to recover waste heat and convert it into low-cost high-temperature heat,” Williams said. “Our technology is helping to meet the growing demand for heat pumps in the European and Chinese markets and beyond.”
Johnson Controls recently supplied heat pumps to more than a dozen district heating and cooling systems in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy and Norway.
