Keep your bills low in winter with energy saving tips

Three Cities in Washington State-Heating bills are expected to rise as temperatures drop.According to Benton PUD, here are some ways you can reduce energy costs this winter.
The age of your house will directly affect your energy bills. If you have a newer home, your electricity bill will not increase significantly in winter. However, if your house is older, your winter energy bill will increase dramatically.
That’s because your home is prone to water leaks-mainly air leaks. The gaps between doorways or windows can allow more cold air to enter your home, while warmer air can escape. This will make your heating system work harder to keep your home at a constant temperature.
You can fix the air leak in several different ways.According to the Benton Public Utilities District (PUD), one method is to seal and plug windows, doors, electrical outlets and plumbing fixtures.Another method is to use a window sealing kit, which uses a film installed on the window to help keep the heat in the home.
Most people have replaced indoor light bulbs with energy-saving LED light bulbs, but what about your outdoor lights?Replacing light bulbs with more energy-efficient alternatives will help reduce costs.
In addition to choosing LED bulbs, you can also place safety lights on the timer. You can choose to run it at a specific time, or get a timer from dusk to dawn.
Finally, keep the thermostat temperature low.It is a good idea to keep it at a level comfortable for you and your family. Then, bundle up and drink hot liquid to keep warm.

You can also use a smart thermostat to automatically lower the temperature when you leave the house and heat it up when you return home.
Kevin Fischer, an energy efficiency consultant at Benton PUD, said: “Now you see, the sun is not shining, and the wind is not blowing. We will not get a lot of solar and wind energy now.” “If we can save energy, we don’t have to burn so much. Coal or natural gas, this will only help keep the planet cool.”
These are just some of the techniques you can use to improve energy efficiency. For more information, please visit the Benton PUD website.
