Nortek saturates the market with heat pumps, VRF units and more

R7TQ: Nortek has introduced a new line of next generation Mammoth® light commercial packaging lids in sizes ranging from 6 tons, 7.5 tons and 10 tons.
Q7RF: Nortek’s Q7RF is a two-stage heat pump with all-aluminum microchannel evaporator and condenser coils, lightweight, compact, rugged and reliable in harsh environments.
CHICAGO – Nortek needs everyone at AHR Expo as the company showcases a host of new product lines across multiple categories, including split air conditioners, variable refrigerant flow (VRF) units, data center control modules, heat pumps, pneumatic/electric packaging systems, and much more. .
“Like all manufacturers, we strive to comply with government regulations across our entire product line,” said Philip Windham, President, Residential HVAC, Nortek Global. “In addition, our goal is to provide the best possible experience for our customers with a wide range of solutions.”
Nortek Global HVAC unveiled a new line of Mammoth Light Commercial integrated rooftop units (RTUs) next generation at the show. The R7TQ is available in 6 tons, 7.5 tons and 10 tons. These RTUs mount directly to regular existing curbs without the use of curb adapters, eliminating delays and saving installation time. Even the gas and electricity connections are shared with many of the old units, so there is no need to change the service route.
“We’ve created our roofing products for contractors, homeowners and facility managers who need a low cost, direct replacement,” said Dave Garvin, Nortek Global HVAC Product Manager. Easily replace obsolete equipment.”
Unit components have been factory installed using Nortek’s global HVAC Demand Flow Technology (DFT). Foam panel construction and hinged panel doors are standard. The 1-inch foam board wall construction ensures there is no fiberglass in the IAQ to discourage mold growth. The wall panels are easy to clean and provide an exceptionally high thermal conductivity value. High quality hinges eliminate the need for roof screws and hold the front door in place even in high winds.
“We believe the build quality is what makes these rooftop units a real breakthrough,” Garvin continued. “The many improvements we have made to this product line have had a significant impact on our customers.”
At IEER 12.7, R7TQ models met federal minimum performance standards well before the 2018 implementation date.
Nortek also showcased its new energy efficient Q7RF 16-SEER, 12-EER, 8.2-HSPF heat pump. This two-stage heat pump incorporates an all-aluminum microchannel evaporator and condenser coils that are lightweight, compact, durable and reliable in harsh environments. This model is Energy Star listed and eligible for federal, state, and utility rebates.
The Q7RF single unit heat pump takes up little space and is easy to install. Microchannel coils help reduce block size and provide superior heat transfer for high efficiency.
Each unit uses Nortek Global HVAC’s patented defrosting process. Conventional finned tube heat pumps have side coil headers with horizontal defrosting. However, in a microduct heat pump, the coils are rotated 90 degrees, so the headers are on top and bottom instead of on the sides. If the defrost starts from top to bottom, the bottom of the coil will never fully defrost. The patented Nortek Global HVAC process adds a hot gas bypass, allowing hot gas to flow from top to bottom and bottom to top, allowing the entire coil to thaw.
The F Series is available under the Broan® and Frigidaire® brands. The PSA/PSH range is available under the Maytag® brand name.
“Our teams of engineers and product managers have been working very hard to bring it all together and give customers something new, and they are very excited about it,” Windham said. “We thought long and hard about the maintainability of this unit from a design standpoint. We spent a lot of time making sure not only how reliable it is, but also how it is installed and maintained. For example, each panel only has one pair of screws. coil connections.
Nortek Global HVAC also introduced a range of commercial multi-zone VRF systems. The complete line includes V5 Mini VRF heat pumps, V5 modular heat pumps and V5 heat recovery systems.
These VRF systems offer a number of benefits for contractors and consumers, including user-friendly selection software; longer pipes provide more flexibility for every job; simple, easy-to-install communication wiring; heating efficiency minus 22°F (minus 30°C). An indoor unit that handles conditions automatically, no need to manually set microswitches, simple commissioning software and more. The V5 VRF system is equipped with a DC variable frequency drive compressor for precise temperature control. Up to 3,280 feet (1,000 meters) of total pipe length and up to 36 internal connections simplify installation, networking, and maintenance. Standard gold and blue fins provide higher performance and improved corrosion resistance.
The V5 Mini VRF system is designed for small commercial or residential applications. Their compact design and internal profile allow installation in hard-to-reach places, and the total pipe length is up to 984 feet (300 meters).
Both are equipped with energy efficient, ultra-quiet DC inverter compressors and powerful heating capabilities at low ambient temperatures.
These 208/230V capacitors are available in 3, 4 or 5 ton sizes and are rated for seven, eight or nine zones.
Indoor units are available as wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted box, cantilever, universal floor-to-ceiling and ducted units.
“Commercial VRF systems are gaining popularity due to their efficiency and flexibility,” said Keith Clark VRF, national sales manager for Nortek Global HVAC. “We pride ourselves on offering high quality VRF products at affordable prices so that our contractor customers can be competitive in their work.”
“Our VRF operates at minus 22° at 80% power, which sets us apart from some of the other brands on the showroom floor,” Windham said. “We recently got a call from a Wisconsin client who said, “We forgot to install auxiliary heating, but we want you to know that the building is 68°. We forgot that we should, because the building also works very well without it. I love hearing success stories like this.”
Nortek introduced several other products, including the R7TQ Gas-Electric Combined System, which won Bronze in the HVAC Light Commercial category at The NEWS 14th Annual Dealer Design Awards; installed electronically commutated motors (ECM) and programmable control board and more.
