The weather is great in winter and at the same time the cost of staying in comfort goes up. Rocky Mountain Power customers can save up to 50% on their heating and cooling costs by upgrading to a dual fuel or ductless heat pump. The company is currently offering discounts on high efficiency heat pumps for dual fuel and ductless heat pumps.
“Over the past few years, we have seen an exponential growth in the number of customers installing heat pumps in their homes,” said Clay Monroe, Director of Customer Solutions at Rocky Mountain Power. “Not only are they making their homes more energy efficient, but they can also cut emissions that lead to inversions by reducing their daily use and reliance on gas stoves.”
In addition to significant savings on energy bills, heat pumps use significantly less energy than traditional HVAC systems. Heat pumps, installed as part of a home’s heating and cooling system, are powered by electricity and located outside. During the cooler months, a heat pump extracts heat from cold outside air and moves it indoors, and during warmer months, it extracts heat from indoor air to cool your home.
The dual fuel heat pump is a heating and cooling system that replaces the traditional air conditioning system and includes a natural gas fired oven. It moves heat from one place to another and switches between a heat pump and a natural gas stove depending on the outside temperature and thermostat settings for maximum comfort and efficiency. Dual fuel heat pumps use the existing plumbing in the house.
In summer, the heat pump works like a highly efficient central air conditioner. It provides efficient heating in spring, autumn and winter, while the gas stove only turns on when needed during the coldest months of the year.

A ductless heat pump is a heating and cooling system that uses an electric heat pump to directly air-condition the room. In winter, the heat pump draws in warm air from outside to raise the temperature inside, while in summer the process is reversed when the heat pump sends heat outside.
Trenchless heat pumps do not rely on a network of pipes, thus avoiding invasive plumbing work. In addition, they are more energy efficient than wall heaters and baseboard heaters (65-70% energy savings), significantly reducing heating and cooling costs while maintaining a comfortable indoor temperature all year round.
According to Energy.gov, “When properly installed, an air source heat pump can deliver three times as much heat to a home as it consumes electricity. Convert heat.
The Rocky Mountain Power Heat Pump Upgrade Discount is available to customers who permanently install a natural gas or propane-fired resistive heating system. Customers sign up for the program because of the many benefits of switching to a heat pump, including easy and low-cost installation, energy savings, heating and cooling, and money back.
By encouraging energy-efficient technological innovation, customers are helping to lay the foundation for a zero-energy future through programs such as the Wattsmart Homes heat pump rebate program. To learn more about the discount program, click here.
